Unforgettable Lines from Tagalog Movies...Translated

Yikes! I almost forgot I was supposed to translate Tagalog entries to English for the benefit of non-Filipinos visiting this site. Previous to this post, I upped an article about unforgettable movie lines which began with the list of 20 of the most wicked lines in Philippine Movies. My daughter and I actually enjoyed literally translating these Tagalog movie lines to English and it turned out to be really outrageous! Well, This only goes to show that Tagalog is indeed a very colorful and interesting language.

So, here they are...enjoy!


(I also translated the Tagalog movie titles for your reading pleasure)

Unforgettable Movie Lines in Philippine Cinema
1. “You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!" —Cherie Gil, “Bituing Walang Ningning” (1985)

Translation: (duh!) - "A Star without Brilliance" (Movie title)

2. “Para kang karinderyang bukas sa lahat ng gustong kumain.” —Vilma Santos, “Palimos ng Pag-ibig” (1985)

Translation: "You are like a makeshift eatery, open to all those who wanna eat!" - Vilma Santos, "Begging for Love" (1985)

3. “Walang himala! Ang himala ay nasa puso ng tao! Nasa puso nating lahat!"—Nora Aunor, “Himala” (1982)
