I just finished watching this film called "The End Of The Line," a documentary premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year, revealing the devastating impact of overfishing on our world's oceans.
As always, it personally angered me how man can be so wantonly abusive of our earth's natural resources, that some species are now nearly wiped out. How did this happen? Our seas comprise more than 70 percent of our earth's surface that it would be unthinkable for humans to deplete this virtually infinite food source. Wrong.

Pop rocks? Ouch!
Today I just found out that one of the pillars of rock radio, NU107, is saying goodbye with just a few hours to go before it shifts to, sadly, a more revenue-viable programming.
This is definitely a sad day for me personally because what would soon happen to NU107 confirms one of my greatest fears - the beginning of the end of rock radio in the Philippines as we know it.

We are all mortal, and don't you forget
Picking up my fifteen year old daughter one day from school, my partner and I were talking about current affairs, specifically this freak show we call election campaign that is now preoccupying the entire country.
When out of the blue, my daughter asked THE question...a question that has probably baffled even the most wisest of sages: "Why are politicians corrupt?"

2000s
I still remember when, as a kid growing up in the 80s, the year with numbers above 2000 for me was unthinkable. And if I ever thought of it, my mind was filled with images of flying cars, humans co-existing with aliens, humans living in outer space, terminator robots wreaking havoc outside major cities protected by geodesic domes, and mind-controlled home appliances (just think of a hamburger and, viola! out it pops from your futuristic oven).
But alas...none of these stuff ever happened. Well, except for wireless communication devices (reminiscent of Star Trek) which was definitely on top of my sci-fi inspired gadgets of the future...and it did happen.

A deadly vocation
While driving my daughter to school, my partner and I were having this heated debate about the recent massacre in Maguindanao, killing among others, more than two dozen innocent print and broadcast local reporters who were only there to do their job.

Humanity and Technology
Finally! Michael Jackson will be laid to rest. Though I must admit I was quite affected by his demise (the evidence being the two posts I did on MJ). Hey, I'm a child of the 80s, so that's that I guess.
Now it's back to the same ol' nose-bleeding task of posting (or reposting lol) some really good stuff here in Pinkoy.

A conspiracy bombshell or dud?
Lately I've been upping links from sources about this fairly recent issue about the H1N1 vaccine which they say would be ready for distribution by July.Coincidentally, when the news broke out that Austrian investigative journalist Jane Burgermeister filed charges with the FBI against the World Health Organization, the United Nations and other powerful government officials (see links on right column), all of humanity was mourning over Michael Jackson's death, thus leaving this utterly shocking piece of news in the backburner.

One day...two icons gone
It was around 6:30 this morning (26th of June) when I bolted out of bed to get ready for a trip to Manila for an important meeting with colleagues at our mother network. Vaguely recalling that my cellphone's alert tone went off around 30 minutes ago when I was half waking up, I checked that message that came in. It came from our radio consultant Andy "DJ DoubleB" which said "Michael Jackson is dead. 45 minutes ago. Heart Attack."Say what?

111 years of Philippine Independence
No work! no classes! Yey! And this isn't because of the flu pandemic (read entry below).
For you history buffs out there (or for others who are interested anyway)...I'm upping these useful links about how and WHY this day, June 12, one hundred eleven years ago, became and forever will be remembered as our country's day of independence (unless another geezer comes along and disagrees...just like this one).

What's wrong with Hayden?
So far, almost half the population of this country has probably (and guiltily) seen the controversial sex videotape of Dr. Hayden Kho, Jr. and sexy starlet Katrina Halili. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if the entire Senate committee currently hearing this scandal already saw the video, in aid of legislation. The erstwhile lovers have become household names that even an ex-cop wanted to get his own five seconds of fame on local news by pouring a whole bottle of mineral water over the already remorseful Dr. Hayden.7.5.09
Year of the Pig
Move aside Ox, it's the year of the Pig.
Now before Chinese astrologers yell in violent protest against this post, that intro was just a construct for me to make a point.

Absolutely extreme eco-friendly tips for Earth Day
Humanity is frying! Us mortals living in equatorial countries are the most exposed to this truly intense heat which, according to certain scientists, is caused by the increased activity of the sun (and NOT the so-called carbon emissions we people have been spewing...so they say).
