The Rise of Bakya Programming in Philippine FM Radio
It used to be simpler. I grew up with FM radio, and during the 80s, Frequency Modulation in my opinion, was at its finest.
I'm sure the 60s and 70s were a lot of fun, but when I was growing up, a lot of us 80s Pinoy kids had our ears glued to FM because it was basically the only source of fresh music we had, especially so with the dawn of the second British music invasion and the rise of commercial rock. The American Top 40 hosted by the legendary Casey Kasem (syndicated and heard over the former 99.5 RT) was the definitive yardstick of what's hot and up there (still is, sans Kasem), sending us kids to record stores to buy the singles or albums which, back then were either in vinyl or cassette tape.

Mid-morning laughs in podcast...soon!
I have to say, Pinkoy's blog has lately been gathering dust and cobwebs.
I have been very busy hosting my regular radio program called The Morning Brew over DWSB 89.5 FM Subic Bay Radio, apart from my other responsibilities as a media practitioner. I know, I know...this doesn't give me reason to just turn away from blogging. The printed word is my friend and my blogs helped me go through certain periods in my life when I needed to rant, say something stupid, or explode.

[As promised, here are three odd (but true) stories from my tripleW files]
MACGYVER-APPROVED TACTIC:
He was stranded for a number of days and just desperate for people to know where he was," said a spokesman for SaskPower, the electric utility is Saskatchewan, Canada. The unidentified man was lost in the wilds in the northern part of the province, and had no way out. But he had an axe, and figured if he cut down some power poles, the resulting electrical outage would bring linemen to repair the breech, and he'd be rescued. It worked like a charm, but two towns were left without power for about 30 hours, SaskPower says. "A lot of people are pretty upset about it," complained Ed Benoanie, a councillor of one of the towns affected, Hatchet Lake Denesuline Nation. When lost, he says, "stay where you are and build a big bonfire" ...Out of power poles.

World of the Weird
I started this fun segment a few months ago in our mid-morning show over 89.5 FM Subic Bay Radio called World Wide Weird news, or the Triple W news. Here, DJTommyG and I get to read and talk about the oddest news from all over the world.
The Triple W News is basically along the lines of the Corey & Jay Show, a radio program co-hosted by Corey Deitz and Jay Hamilton currently based in Little Rock, Arkansas on 100.3 The Edge. They have these segments such as Head Up Your Ass Headlines, When Animals Get Pissed, Police Blotter and a couple more wherein they read the weirdest, funniest and even the most gruesome news stories taken from different sources from around the globe.

It's a community radio station for crying out loud!
The onset of 2009 was, shall I say, very kind to me. I spent my first day with my family here in Subic, and, work-wise, I have really high hopes that the year will also be a banner period for Bay FM, the community radio station I was tasked to manage and develop.
Well, I spoke to soon. Unlike the first few days of 2009, not everything (or everyone) had been kind.
I really don't want to rant here in pinkoy about this, but I need to let out all these frustrations, disappointments and hurt which I am feeling right now. It's just because I never in my wildest dreams, thought that this would happen to me.
